Some people find the airport stressful but I find it exhilarating. There is nothing I love more than packing my bags for a trip. Your carry-on is your life line when you’re on a long flight or stuck in an airport. From Vegas to Paris, no matter where you are going, here are the essentials your carry-on needs for any flight in any airport.

Carry-On Bag:

A great carry on bag needs three things; compartments, flexibility, and weight distribution. It should be able to fit everything in neat compartments, fit in various shaped small spaces and be easy to lug around an airport. This OG overnight bag is my go-to and has it all.

Sleep:

Eye Mask

When you don’t have a window seat and you’re taking an early flight, sunlight can ruin all chances of you sleeping. This cute Breakfast at Tiffany’s inspired sleep mask is a great way to block out the lights and people around you.

Slipper Socks

Planes are constantly pumping air into the cabin creating a pretty chilly environment. If you wear flip flops on flights or like taking off your shoes, a fuzzy pair of socks can keep you comfy and warm while in the air.

Blanket Scarf

Never leave home without a big scarf. They can keep your neck warm in the winter or your entire body warm on a plane. This piece of fabric is the most diverse thing in your travel wardrobe.

Ear Plugs

I have particularly bad luck with crying babies on planes and older people wanting to chat. If you need to catch some zzzz’s on your flight, let the world know you’re sleeping by blocking them out.

Sleep Pillow

I’m not a huge fan of sleep pillows unless I’m on a red eye because it’s just one more thing to carry. However, if you know you’re going to pass out they can save you from a serious kink in your neck.

Entertainment:

Noise cancelling headphones

I love, love, LOVE my beats when I’m flying. I get massive migraines from the air pressure changes but the noise cancelling features have saved my life! I will never get on a plane again without noise cancelling headphones of some kind.

Camera

This world is gorgeous! And if you are going to travel you had better take some photos so that you and your children and your children’s children can remember the beautiful sight that you are in this gorgeous world. This is my favorite camera that has taken many of my pictures, but however you take your pics, document your adventures.

Phone

I’m going to assume you wouldn’t forget your phone, but here’s a reminder just in case.

iPad

Downloading Netflix videos onto my iPad has saved me from seriously long flights. Most flights also have movies and TV shows you can watch on your device while in the air.

All of your chargers

Essentials:

Travel Wallet

This all in one travel wallet and passport cover is a great way to keep track of your important documents and money. I would suggest breaking up your cash and cards just in case you encounter a pickpocket though.

Hair Brush

Usually I wear my hair in a bun when I fly but when I wear it down a hair brush is necessary.

Hand Cream

Gold bond is my go to lotion. It doesn’t have a smell and it is deeply hydrating.

Lip Balm

Mascara and lipstick are the only makeup I wear when traveling. A long flight plus a lot of makeup usually equals many black smudges on my face. However, Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede is the greatest lipstain I have found. My particular favorite is Supermodel color #45.

Notebook and Pen

You know how you sometimes have the greatest thoughts in the shower and you wish you could write them down? That is how my mind works on airplanes. Notebooks and pens are also great for doodling when your mind won’t stop working and journaling about your trip.

Make Up Bag

A cute travel makeup bag is one of the joys in life. This cute Kate Spade polka dot bag is one of my favorites and classy when you need to touch up your look.

Hand Sanitizer

Do you know how disgusting planes are? A study found the germiest places on airplanes and let me tell you, it’s pretty much every part of the airplane. Hand sanitizer can give you a little peace of mind when touching, well, anything on a plane.

Toothbrush and Toothpaste

If you have a layover, an overnight flight, an early flight, or pretty much any flight where you’ll be eating any of their food or your own snacks, you’ll want to brush your teeth after. Taking a toothbrush and toothpaste in your carry-on can give you a little relief on or after your flight.

Travel Size Perfume

Marc Jacobs’ travel perfume is the perfect way to freshen up when you jump off your flight.

Snacks:

Healthy Snack

When I get the munchies on a plane, Blue Diamond Habanero Almonds are my go to flight snacks.

Water Bottle

You can take a metal water bottle through security as long as you don’t fill it up until you’ve passed TSA. Bringing your own water bottle is economical and environmentally friendly.

Gum

Until you can brush your teeth you’ll want some gum to hold you over. Or if the guy next to you needs some, you can share and make a friend.
