The 3 Best Books for LDS Converts

I am an avid reader, so once I started investigating the Church, I found solace in books.  Because my family wasn’t active and my friends weren’t bookish, I had to search for LDS books alone. I picked up but never finished a few books because they were too dense–I was so new to the Church that I was overwhelmed easily. Below are three books that I completely loved, and that helped my conversion immensely.

The Continuous Conversion by Brad Wilcox

The Continuous Conversion by Brad Wilcox

This was the first “Mormon book” I ever read. It was recommended by my husband because he knew that Brad Wilcox was an incredible speaker. He is also an incredible author! This book is so easy to read and it is full of wisdom. Wilcox has not only mastered being relatable, he will make you laugh out loud with his humor. The title alone is enticing to converts, and he helped me realize that we are all converts to the Church, whether baptized at 8 or 80.

The Blueprint of Christ’s Church by Tad R. Callister

The Blueprint of Christ's Church by Tad R Callister

This book taught me so much about the doctrine of our Church. Tad R. Callister approaches the teachings of Christ as a blueprint of the true Church (hence the name) and explains how the LDS Church matches it. Callister does a wonderful job at explaining doctrine in an easy-to-understand way, without condescending or “dumbing it down.” He really showed me the core of the Church’s teachings, unpolluted by imperfect members or misguided lessons. This is a must-read for those who are already familiar with the Bible and want help tying it in with the Book of Mormon.

More than the Tattooed Mormon by Al Carraway

More than the Tattooed Mormon by Al Carraway

I vaguely knew of Al Carraway when I started investigating, but it wasn’t until I stumbled upon her blog that I really started following her. I was completely immersed in her posts, and when she released her book, I obtained a signed copy right away. Her book reads like one long blog post, and it’s so powerful. Carraway takes you through her journey and you feel like you were right there with her. Her love for the gospel is inspiring, and your testimony grows with every turn of the page.

This isn’t a comprehensive list, of course. There are hundreds of incredible LDS books and authors out there, and I’m excited for this new genre opened up to me. If you have a book that helped you in your conversion or brought you back to the path, please share!
